but not a broken bone. this weekend i'm going to zip line through hocking hills sometimes as high as 70 feet off the ground. it's already paid for, so i can't chicken out.

the craziness is about to begin.

there's a movie like this...

a movie i saw ages ago. a head grows out of a man's neck or shoulder and talks to him.

hector hears a voice in his head. the voice is a brain tumor who names himself jack tumor. jack wants to get laid. he pumps hector full of endorphins and begins the transformation. hec gets a new haircut, shoplifts some expensive clothes, and invites uma upshaw to take a walk. hec's hippie mother is worried. hec's doctor wants to remove jack. hec wants amanda, the girl with the port-wine birthmark.

how i feel today

it's cold and cloudy and a little bit snowy outside. how i long to lie in the green grass, warmed by the sun, and if i can eat at the same time...i don't need to tell you it would be paradise.

"aha" moment

i realized something the other night. stripey is obese. you may have already figured this out from the pics i've posted here. i always told myself he was big boned. i don't know how to put a cat on a diet. he refuses to cooperate during yoga. i don't want stripey to get diabetes or some other obesity related disease. it's not that big of a deal if i get obese, but i'm responsible for my cats health and well-being. thankfully i don't have kids.

thing 23

i knew stripey wasn't visiting his sick grandmother on saturday. he went to the newport to see martin sexton. he's busted though. those wristbands are impossible to get off without scissors.

i'm celebrating the end of learn & play with a video. i didn't have a youtube account before l&p and never shared videos i've taken except on the camera itself w/everyone crowded around its tiny screen.
i've definitely learned new things because of l&p. first of all i've never been a regular blogger. i'd like to think i'll keep up with it, but i'm just not sure. what i liked best was exploring flickr and youtube. i love that teens can post their own pics to cml's webpage. we should harness this for our own purposes. have teens create a video promoting reading, src, or anything. let them be the creative force behind our programs. podcasts just aren't visual enough for me.
i really enjoyed learning about google docs. i've had a google account forever, but never used it much or looked into what was available. thanks again l&p.
i don't use all the web 2.0 tools i learned about during l&p. although, now that i have a greater knowledge of them, there may be a future place for them in my life.

moldi

these slime molds and i were checking out moldi, and we had some trouble finding anything that interested us. the music selection is lame. we thought the teen selections were abysmal, but then found many teen titles under children's. so that's good that they're there somewhere. we weren't really able to find any of the authors we like to read. we found absolutely nothing about zombies. there were a lot of classics. when someone has to have a book yesterday perhaps moldi would be an option.
so moldi has a long way to go to get my business. call me old fashioned, but i like to turn pages when i read, and i've never been a huge fan of audio books. i did find some cool eflicks. my friend the slime molds are undecided.

podcast virgin

until l&p i have never listened to a podcast. i guess i didn't know what i was missing. because i am a huge fan of horror films i have subscribed to "cinema diabolica". i found it on the list of top podcasts on podcastalley. hosted by f13 & dz and is a review of horror, cult, exploitation, eurotrash, & giallo films. i had to google giallo.

gotta love youtube

last friday lou reed was on david letterman. that's way past my bedtime. in the old days i would set the vcr to record. half the time i wouldn't even record the right thing because i'd mix up am and pm. i had no worries going to bed early last friday because i knew i'd be able to find lou's performance on youtube. He sang "caroline says" from his berlin album. i also found video of him signing autographs outside the show, and about a million other videos, from recent to decades ago.

i've stumbled upon stumbleupon

if not for thing #19 i would never have discovered stumbleupon.com. without stumbleupon i never would have discovered catoverload.com. omg! how have i never found this site?!? i've never been very good at surfing the net; i get bored too quickly. stumbleupon may be the answer to my surfing woes.

i'm cooked

if not for learn and play i would never have found this web community for video recipe sharing. where else can you watch video on how to make a big mac at home, watch christopher walken roast a chicken, or paul mccartney make mashed potatoes. i will be spending hours at home searching this site.

i'm in love

no, i'm not talking about rafa again. i'm in love with thing #17. how cool is this? i can't tell you how many times i've gotten confused by the various versions of a document being e-mailed back and forth. when i was preparing for the last olc presentation i did i was so paranoid about forgetting or losing my flash drive. google docs will relieve that worry. i'm definitely going to utilize this app.
i made a power point slide with one of my favorite pics of stripey in google docs and shared it with the rest of the info staff. they can post their favorite pic of whatever they want and voila! a complete document with all our pics.

from the mouths of babes...

this morning one of my former volunteens came to hilltop wanting advice on finding a job. we chatted for a while. he asked to see my tatoo, which is on my ring finger. as i struggled to get my rings off i said perhaps i should lose a few pounds. he told me that i did not need to lose any weight and leaned in to tell me a secret. he made me pinky swear that i wouldn't be offended then said, "i though you were fatter before". a backhanded compliment, sure, but i'll take it.
